DFW Airport Again Ranked as One of North Texas’ Healthiest Employers

The Healthiest Employers of North Texas Awards Luncheon, sponsored by the Dallas Business Journal, was held March 21, at the Hyatt Regency Dallas to honor North Texas employers who are committed to creating a healthy workplace.

DFW was recognized for its LiveWell program for the second year in a row. The LiveWell program encourages employees to make positive lifestyle choices through group exercise, strength training, sports-led fitness programs, educational workshops, and personal training and fitness assessments.

Employers nominated for this award have a common theme of using incentives, competition, on-site facilities and flexible hours to create healthy workplaces.

Norma Essary, vice president risk management and LiveWell, said DFW Airport made a commitment in 2007 to create the best in class wellness program, and that is what the LiveWell Program does each and every day for DFW employees.

"We want to encourage our employees and their families to make lifestyle choices that optimize their health and well-being, while at the same time providing opportunities to motivate their decisions," Essary said. "At DFW, we believe that a healthy workforce contributes to a more productive workforce and has a substantial positive impact on all of our business goals."

The award measures wellness programming in six categories: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and intervention, and reporting and analysis.

LiveWell Executive Sponsor, Linda Valdez Thompson, executive vice president administration and diversity, and Kenneth Buchanan, executive vice president revenue management, accepted the award on behalf of DFW Airport.
